Winlock Falls to Kalama

The Winlock girls basketball team needed until the second quarter to get onto the scoreboard, and by then Kalama had a lead it wouldn’t relinquish in a 41-24 league loss for the Cardinals.

“It took us the first half to gain our confidence, after not scoring at all in the first quarter and with Kiya Peppers in early foul trouble,” Winlock coach Dracy McCoy said. “The goal is to continue to build on our confidence.”

By halftime, the deficit was 23-9, though the Cardinals played the Chinooks nearly even the rest of the way.

Natalie Cardenas led the Cardinals with 11 points and added four steals to her final line. Kindyl Kelly scored seven points.

Winlock (1-3, 0-2 C2BL) will face up to Pope John Paul II on Saturday in a non-league contest.
