Winlock residents look to expand number of American flags at entrances to city

A group of volunteers in Winlock recently worked together to purchase and install 20 American flags along the entrance to the town for the Fourth of July.

The gesture was well received.

“The response from our neighbors was overwhelming — people felt a renewed sense of unity and patriotism, and many shared how much it meant to see our community come together in such a visible way,” Margaret Chastain wrote on the crowdfunding website GoFundMe.com.

It has inspired the group to make the display of patriotism into an annual tradition.

The Winlock Patriotic Citizens, a self-described “group of volunteers who find joy in celebrating our country and bringing our community together,” are now trying to get another 20 American flags to adorn other entrances to Winlock.

"Our goal is to make these displays a tradition, with flags flying from sun up to dusk on the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Presidents Day and Memorial Day each year," Chastain wrote.

“Every donation will help us continue this tradition and ensure that the spirit of patriotism remains strong in Winlock for years to come,” Chastain wrote.
