Wolves upset Centralia on late goal

The Centralia girls soccer team lost its penultimate game of the regular season, 3-2 at Black Hills.

“I feel like I’m cursed on this field,” said Centralia coach Luis Magana Reyna, himself a Black Hills alum. “I love coming back, it’s a special feeling because I graduated from here and it usually feels like a warm homecoming. But for whatever reason, every team I coach always has trouble on that field.”

The Wolves (3-10, 3-8 2A EvCo) grabbed a goal in the second minute, and made it 2-0 by halftime.

The Tigers (9-6, 6-5 2A EvCo) evened things up, with Jaslin Corona scoring in the 58th minute and Trinity Smith turning in a rebound to level it in the 66th, but Black Hills came back with a game-winner in the 75th.

Braylee Blankenship made four saves in the first half for Centralia, and Ramona Reinitz came in for her and made three in the second.

“It’s a little bit of a learning experience,” Magana Reyna said. “I knew it was going to be a tough game. I hope we’re able to bounce back.”

Black Hills will end its season at Shelton on Thursday. Centralia will host Aberdeen in a matchup of postseason-bound teams, with the loser finishing fourth in the 2A EvCo — and having to play in the district pigtail matchup.
