An Olympia woman was arrested Wednesday following an alleged theft from the Nike outlet store in Centralia.

According to police, the woman then attempted to traffic the stolen shoes.

Shawnna L. Culp, 43, faces one count each of first-degree trafficking in stolen property and second-degree theft. She made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Thursday.

During the hearing, a superior court judge set Culp’s bail at $5,000 cash or bond, citing a recent failure to appear in court and active out-of-county cases.

She is scheduled for an arraignment on April 2.

According to prosecutors, Culp had two active warrants at the time of her arrest. Her felony history includes convictions for second-degree identity theft, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, burglary, forgery and second-degree theft, among other offenses.

A probable cause statement notes that the Nike store’s manager took a photograph of the SUV Culp had entered as it fled the scene following her alleged theft on March 24.

The manager said another suspect had also been inside the store before he left to get into the SUV. He said that Culp — then unidentified — exited the store with multiple bags of items.

The Nike store later determined the stolen items totaled $1,179.82 in value.

Police used the Flock Safety camera system to locate the SUV and called the registered owner of the license plate, who reportedly said he had sold the vehicle to Culp.

After further investigation, police obtained a search warrant for Culp’s apartment. Inside, they found Culp and “some of the stolen shoes from Nike,” according to the affidavit.

Culp reportedly told police she had sold some of the items. She said she had given other items to a woman in the same apartment complex to sell.

When questioned, the woman reportedly told police “the whole thing was Culp's idea.”

“Culp also said she got her brother to drive her to the Centralia Nike store but that he had nothing to do with the incident,” the affidavit states.
