The Lewis County Planning Commission will hold two informational workshops on the Packwood Subarea Plan in the coming weeks, one at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 and the second at 6 p.m. Feb. 14, at the Lewis County Courthouse in Chehalis.

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. on March 14 at the Packwood Community Hall to receive testimony from citizens before making a recommendation to the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

The Packwood Subarea Plan includes a vision, goals and policies to guide growth and development in the Packwood area over the next 20 years. The plan was created by a 35-member community advisory committee facilitated by Lewis County staff.

Input from the broader community was also included through four public forums on housing, three online surveys and two community meetings that took place from December through October 2022.

“Over the past few years, Packwood has been growing at a fast rate and the proposed plan is intended to constrain growth a bit and manage how growth occurs,” said Mindy Brooks, Lewis County senior long range planner, in a written statement. “The plan is like a compass helping direct where Packwood is headed over the long term.”

Paper copies of the plan are also available at the Packwood Timberland Library.
