The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is looking for witnesses to the fatal hit-and-run collision that left a pedestrian dead on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 12 in Packwood last Friday.

According to troopers, the suspect was heading westbound on U.S. 12 near milepost 131 and Skate Creek Road South at about 7:37 a.m. March 13 when their vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The driver fled the scene.

According to troopers, Alan D. Sargent, 66, of Puyallup, was located on the westbound shoulder of the highway in front of the Cowlitz River Lodge.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and their vehicle have not been identified by WSP.

Detectives are now requesting information from any witnesses who may have traveled through the area on either the night of March 12 or morning of March 13.

This includes witnesses “who may have seen or encountered the pedestrian, or who may have dashcam footage,” according to a recent news release from the state patrol.

Those with information can contact Detective Conor Schwilke at Conor.Schwilke@wsp.wa.gov.
