5-Foot Snake Found in Tenino Given New Home

After no one claimed a 5-foot snake found outside of an apartment complex in Tenino, the snake has been given a new home.

Tenino resident Brittney Anderson found the snake outside near Fifth and Main streets on Tuesday evening. She later captured it with the help of her uncle, Lonnie Anderson. The Andersons originally identified the snake as a python, but it hasn’t been examined by a wildlife expert.

The snake matches photos and descriptions of a pine snake, a species native to southeastern United States.

Originally, animal control officers from the Tacoma area were scheduled to pick up the reptile on Thursday morning, but Anderson was able to find someone to give him a home.

Brittney Anderson’s friend took the snake. She didn’t provide the friend’s name.

“My friend said he’s happy, healthy, fed, and has plenty of room to move around,” Brittney Anderson said.

Before rehoming the snake, Brittney and Lonnie Anderson tried again to find the owners with no luck.

“My uncle and I went around one last time to see if he was any local’s pet or if anyone had any idea who he might belong to, and no one had any clue,” she said.
