Bearcats lose non-leaguer to Monarchs

The W.F. West girls soccer team dropped its third straight match to open the season Saturday, losing 2-1 to Mark Morris.

After a scoreless first half, the Monarchs took the lead in the 43rd minute, and doubled it just five minutes later.

“Out of halftime, I think tired legs from the three games this week set in,” WFW coach Kevin Schultz said. “We looked lethargic and they capitalized on really our only two big defensive mistakes of the game.”

Lauren Kelley got the Bearcats (0-3) on the board in the 80th minute, off an assist from Ashlen Gruginski, but it would be too little, too late.

W.F. West is set to host Shelton in a league matchup next Tuesday.
