Bearcats suffer first loss against Bulldogs in Ellensburg

The W.F. West girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday, falling to 2A Ellensburg 49-36 at Central Washington University.

The Bearcats (8-1, 3-0 2A EvCo)  played well for a majority of the game, staying within five to 10 points for most of the match, but offense was hard to come by outside of Julia Dalan, who led the way with 28 points.

The Bulldogs were able to limit the Bearcats, as Dilyn Boeck and Lena Fragner were the only other Bearcats to get on the scoresheet, and they scored four each.

“They’re just really good at what they do,” W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said. “That was a good test for us. They’re the two-time defending champions for a reason. I was proud of our poise and resilience.”

The W.F. West defense did what they could, allowing just 20 points in the second half, but the Bulldogs were able to come away with their 57th straight victory.

“We make one or two more shots and it’s a different game,” Karnofski said. “And we’re right there closer than what we were.”

The Bearcats are back in action at CWU again on Friday, when they’ll take on Davis.
