The W.F. West girls golf team topped Centralia at Newaukum Golf Course on Monday, as the Bearcats defeated Centralia 95-57.

The two teams used the Stableford scoring system, which awards golfers points for how they did on each hole (3 points for a birdie, 2 points for a par, etc.).

Natalie Eklund, who finished 10th last year at the state meet, led the Bearcats with 32 points, shooting a 37 on the day. Grace Oien scored 29 points for W.F. West by shooting a 40.

Abby Alexander scored 21 points with a 48, Carlie Deskins tallied 17 points with a 54, and Madysen Alexander scored 13 points with a 56.

Tess McMurry led the Tigers with 19 points by shooting a 51, while Emily Wilkerson added 16 points with a 54. Lily Ferch also added 16 points with a 53.

Lyla Aumiller scored 10 points with a 59 and Corin Meek shot a 64 to tally seven points.

W.F. West coach Matt Klovdahl said it was nice to get back out on the course, and the team has high expectations for themselves this spring.

The Bearcats are a senior-heavy team, and with four state tournament golfers from last spring, they’ll be looking to repeat as district champions.

They’ll be back in action next Monday, March 25, at Alderbrook Golf Course against Shelton.
