In an early-season Evergreen Conference contest, the Wolves jumped out to a two-set lead and fended off the Tigers en route to a 25-19, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18 on Thursday night in Tumwater.

It snapped a three-game skid for Black Hills (2-5, 1-1 EvCo) and also marked its first league win of the fall. The Wolves will return to the court for an in-county rivalry matchup with EvCo-leading Tumwater next week.

Centralia head coach Marti Smith was pleased with her group and stated it was the best serving match of the season. The Tigers missed just two serves in four sets with 11 aces.

“I felt like the entire time we were in this match,” Smith said. “There were just moments in those first two sets where we were on the losing end of those rallies.”

Madison Breckel, one of three Tigers that were 100 percent from the service line, was the engine in helping Centralia (2-5, 0-3) score the first seven points in the third set. McKenna Smith had 11 assists and 10 digs while Hollynn Wakefield finished with 12 digs and four kills.

The Tigers will face W.F. West next week in the first of two Swamp Cup showdown.
