Preparation for district tournaments are underway, as local golf teams begin playing 18-hole matches.

Centralia played the first of three 18-hole matches against Black Hills at Tumwater Valley on Wednesday, and the Wolves came out on top 424-499.

“It was a little bit of a challenge,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said. “But we enjoyed it.”

Tyler Fagerness led the Tigers with an 82, while Jake Johnson shot a 92. Paul Guthrie added a 106, Tristin Henning recorded a 109, and Kynon Meek rounded out the Centralia scorecard with a 110.

Black Hills had each of their top-five shooters post a score under 100, led by Phoenix Flores and Jack Casler, who shot a 77 and 79.

Logan Stallings and Kendall Roberson each added an 86, and Ezra Harris logged a 96.

The Tigers will play another 18 at Highland Golf Course against Aberdeen next Wednesday, Oct. 9, and the EvCo tournament is set for the following week at Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis.

The Wolves will also be back in action next Wednesday, as they’ll host W.F. West at Tumwater Valley.
