The body of the man who went missing on the Columbia River last Thursday, his kayak left adrift, has been recovered, the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said.
David Kalousdian of Hood River was determined to be missing on Oct. 1 after his fishing kayak was found on the river with its trolling motor running, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office, Hood River police and the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Police searched for Kalousdian for hours without success that day.
The sheriff’s office received a report at about 3 p.m. Tuesday of a body in the water near the tip of a sandbar near Hood River, and officials recovered it and identified it as Kalousdian, authorities said.
Kalousdian’s inflatable life vest “did not have a recharge kit installed, which rendered it ineffective,” detectives determined.
The sheriff’s office said it hopes the recovery “provides his family with some sense of closure.”
