Shots fired, threats allegedly over Wi-Fi password in Alsea

Authorities allege an Alsea man fired a handgun and pointed it at another man during a confrontation that was sparked over internet access.

Anthony Scott Davis, a convicted felon barred from having firearms, faces a half-dozen criminal counts in connection with the alleged incident, including assault and weapons charges.

Benton County prosecutors charged Davis, 54, with felony counts of attempted first-degree assault, unlawful weapon use and felon in possession of a firearm, as well as misdemeanor menacing and pointing a firearm at another.

The alleged victim said he was setting up Wi-Fi on Thursday, Oct. 1, at a home on South Second Street in Alsea and Davis, a resident there, was angry because he did not have the Wi-Fi password, becoming enraged and belligerent, according to an affidavit.

While the man was in the living room, Davis went to his bedroom and allegedly returned brandishing a .45-caliber pistol, then stepped out onto the front porch and allegedly fired two shots in the general direction of nearby homes to the east.

Immediately going back inside, Davis reportedly found the man hiding in the bathroom. Lying on the floor with Davis yelling and allegedly pointing the weapon near his head, the man told authorities he begged for his life.

Davis was momentarily distracted by something, giving the man a chance to make a break for it.

Darting out the back door, he got into his truck but told authorities Davis stood in front of the vehicle and pointed the handgun at him. He said he believed Davis would have killed him had he not escaped.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing Davis with the weapon and hearing the gunshots, including a neighbor who hid under his truck to keep from becoming a victim. Two children fishing nearby reportedly heard the shots and shortly after encountered Davis, saying he was acting strange but did not threaten them.

When Benton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, Davis was on the porch of the home and went back inside. He came back out but did not follow commands, the affidavit says, and was ultimately struck with a taser. After a brief struggle, he was handcuffed and arrested.

It's not clear if a firearm was recovered from the scene.

Davis was booked at the Benton County Jail and held on $50,000 bail.

Court records show Davis was previously convicted of criminal mischief, assault, DUII, reckless driving, criminal mistreatment, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, failure to appear, burglary, controlled substance possession and manufacturing a controlled substance.
