A pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle in Tumwater on July 4 in an alleged hit and run case has been identified.
Karen Ames, a 62-year-old Tumwater woman, died from blunt force trauma to her head, Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock told The Olympian on Thursday.
Tumwater police found Ames on the 6100 block of Capitol Boulevard South, north of the Olympia Regional Airport. First responders transported Ames to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, but she died several days later, Police Lt. Jen Kolb said on Wednesday.
Police did not initially know how Ames was injured, Kolb said. They later determined she was struck by a Toyota truck after reviewing video footage from a nearby business, she said.
The footage showed the crash occurred at about 10:30 p.m. July 4 as the driver of the truck pulled onto Capitol Boulevard, Kolb said.
In a Tuesday social media post, the Tumwater Police Department asked the public for help locating the truck. Officers contacted the owner of the truck later that day, but Kolb said he was not arrested.
The truck owner reportedly told police they did not realize they had struck Ames, Kolb said. Police are still actively investigating the incident, she said.
