Cross Country roundup” Rochester’s Morgan, Tumwater’s Clapp win at Borst

The Tumwater cross country team won both team events in a four-school meet-up at Fort Borst on Wednesday, while Rochester came away with an individual win.

Junior Gunnar Morgan took first in the boys’ 5,000-meter race, with a time of 17:52. After him came Shelton’s Carson Bursch, followed by six straight Thunderbirds to fill out Tumwater’s team card in the top seven.

Reis Howell led Tumwater at 18:15.39, followed by Jude Furubotten (18:71.71), Alan Penrose III (18:30.55), Malakai Jenkins (18:43.85), and Benjamin Morgan (18:53.53). Zane McAferty’s time of 18:54.1 didn’t count toward the T-Birds’ team score, but he still finished eighth.

Next came Rochester’s Taydee Evenstar at 18:59.48, good for ninth.

Sophomore Adam Leon had Centralia’s best time, taking 12th at 19:36.08, while Ethan Weiher was 15th at 20:35.49.

Tumwater’s Annabelle Clapp won the girls’ race in 22:41.19, followed by teammates Alexandra Broome (22:48.33) in second and Olivia Ahrens (22:53.89) in third.

Centalia’s Elyse O’Dell came in fifth place with a time of 23:46.78. Seraschel Aldrich led Rochester with a 13th-place finish in 25:28.17.



Wolves, Bearcats, Acorns run at Harbor

W.F. West and Black Hills went out to Makarenko Park in Cosmopolis on Wednesday for a 2A EvCo race against Aberdeen, which Elma, Oakville and Ocosta joined in on.

Bobcats took first in both races, but the Wolves won the team crown for the girls. Taelor Woo led the way with a fourth-place finish in 23:15.69, Alexandria Iglesias was ninth at 26:15.01, Adeline Rice was 11th at 26:25.29, Fiona Tang was 14th at 28:00.48, and Amanda Aybar was 17th at 28:27.80.

Black Hills’ Truman Wimsett led all area boys with a third-place time of 18:18.10. Next up came Oakville eighth grader Cecil Gumaelius, who placed fourth at 18:26:01.

W.F. West’s Ezra Birchard was eighth in 19:04.66, followed by Black Hills’ Mason Burke (19:31.14) and Deegan Lubliner (20:07.85) and WFW’s David Moeckel rounded out the top 10 in 20:13.16.

Mercedes Ricks led the W.F. West girls with a time of 23:34.48 to take sixth, just ahead of Oakville’s Carmella Gumaelius (25:37.54).
