Don and Judy Wilson celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

Posted

Don Wilson met Judy Rockhold in the summer of 1957 at Mckee's Beach in Snohomish County. They were married Aug. 21, 1964.

Don is a graduate of the Universality of Washington and Judy of Central Washington State

College, as it was then known.

Judy began her teaching career as a fourth grade teacher in the Lake Washington School District, moving to the Seattle School District two years later. Don began teaching in Seattle.

In 1969 their first son, Andrew, was born, and in 1970 Don accepted a job as a counselor at Centralia High School. Judy was a stay-at-home mom for a year and then took a teaching job at Evaline School.

In 1975, they moved to the Centralia area and their second son, Alan, was born. After another two years at home, Judy took a job at Jefferson Lincoln Elementary School, later moving to Washington Elementary School, where she taught fourth grade for many years.

In 2001, they both retired with a combined 70 years in education.

In retirement, both volunteered for Meals on Wheels for several years. Judy began volunteering at the Greater Chehalis Food Bank and has served on the board of that group as secretary for many years. Don did some tutoring at Centralia College and served three terms on the board of Cascade Mental Health, as it was then known.

Both have been very active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as deacons and elders, and Judy is clerk of sessions there.

They are also frequently seen at square and round dances from Olympia to Longview. The Wilsons have one grandchild, Victor Wilson, of Centralia.
