Centralia senior Von Wasson took fifth place at the two-day 2A District 4 boys golf tournament at Alderbrook Golf Course to lead a contingent of five local golfers to make the state tournament in May.

Wasson, who went into Tuesday back in 13th place after carding an 81 in his first 18 holes Monday, shot a 75 — tied for the second-best Day 2 score — to finish at 158 for the tournament.

The 2A Greater St. Helens League dominated the proceedings in Union, with 15 of the 21 golfers to make the cut to State hailing from the southern league. Columbia River’s Jack Kendrick won the tournament by eight strikes at 145, with the next three golfers before Wasson coming from River and Washougal.

Tumwater’s Braeden Konrad finished in a tie for seventh at 162 to make the cut for State, as did Nolan Campbell, in ninth at 163.

W.F. West’s Weston Potter tied for 10th on 164, ironically enough with Columbia River’s Luke Potter.

Rounding out the locals, Black Hills’ Jack Casler took 14th on 167. Fellow Wolf Phoenix Flores just missed the cut, finishing at 170 to take 23rd.

Tumwater’s Landon Baydo (172) and Zane Laposky (178) made the cut after Monday into the top 40 but missed the mark to get to State, as did Centralia’s Tyler Fagerness (176).

The 2A state tournament will be held May 21-22 of next year at Liberty Lake Golf Course.
