Gist brace leads Bearcats over Bobcats

Fresh off its first win of the season, the W.F. West soccer team made it two in a row out in Grays Harbor County, downing Aberdeen 2-0.

“Not our best game, but Aberdeen is always a tough place to play, and anytime you leave the Harbor with a win you are happy,” WFW coach Kevin Schultz said.

Sophomore Trinity Gist scored both of the goals for the Bearcats (2-3, 2-0 2A EvCo), striking in the 21st minute off an assist from Ashlen Gruginski, and again after halftime in the 61st.

“Trinity Gist really showed up big for us tonight,” Schultz said. “In the first half she came off the bench and created energy.”

Despite going into halftime up by a goal, Schultz said the Bearcats found themselves pinned in their own end for much of the second, before a brief period of build-up led to Gist’s second, which made things more comfortable.

Keeper Staysha Fluetsch came away with six saves.

W.F. West will take on Tumwater on the road next Tuesday.
