In loving memory of Carole Wamsley: 1934-2023

Posted

Carole R. Wamsley passed away on Aug. 3, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Onalaska, five months to the day after her husband of 53 years, Howard Wamsley. Carole was born in Onalaska to Tip and Carlie Rogers on Oct. 12, 1934, being a middle child of 15 brothers and sisters.

Carole was devoted to her family, making sure everyone was always supplied with jams, pies and cookies and a door that was always open. Carole became Mom and Grandma to many additional kids over the years that she cared for, who still refer to her as these endearing names today. Carole spent most of her life caring for others, starting at a young age for her mother and father, her young siblings and finally her husband Howard after a logging accident in 1994 until his recent passing. Her family will forever have an empty spot in their hearts with her passing.

Carole was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Gilk, and their sons, David and Dale Gilk; her second husband, Howard Wamsley; parents, Tip and Carlie Rogers; and several siblings, May Roop, Geneva Martin, Henry Ray Rogers, Marguerite Sawyer, Frances Derkacht, Kermit Rogers, Duane Rogers, Betty Werden, Barbara Belongia, Patty Newton, John Rogers, Kenneth Rogers, Judy Koski and Nancy Nichols.

Carole leaves behind her children, Janet (Gilk) and Greg Norris and Brian and Kimberly (Scott) Wamsley; grandchildren, Derick Gilk, Carlie (Norris) and Rondal Womack and Lucie and Hayden Wamsley; as well as her one great-grandson, Leonard Jay Womack. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Rushton, and a great many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of Fir Lawn Mortuary. Private services will be held at a later date.
