In loving memory of Debra Mitchell: 1951-2023

Posted
Debra Lee (Curtright) Mitchell, Centralia, was born on July 31, 1951, passed away Oct. 10, 2023.

Deb was born in Centralia at the old Lewis County General Hospital to Romalie (Helmick) and Richard B. Curtright. She was raised in Centralia where she graduated from Centralia High School in 1969. She was raised in the Cooks Hill neighborhood with her two brothers, Mike (Becky) Curtright and Rick (Cathy) Curtright.

Deb married Robert (Bob) I. Mitchell on Sept. 10, 1977. They raised their two boys R. Travis (Tammy) Mitchell and Christopher W. (Ricki) Mitchell on the same hill she was raised on. Being a grandmother was her greatest joy, Kody and McKenzie were the light of her life.

Deb had a few jobs over the years, from bartending at her parent’s bar, Myron’s Tavern, to retail at Sunbirds. She dedicated 20-plus years to Catholic Care Services, where her clients became part of her family. Deb enjoyed the outdoors the most, from horseback riding, camping and hosting large backyard barbecues several times a year. She especially enjoyed hot days in her beloved pool!

She was a former member of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Junior Posse and an auxiliary member of The American Legion. She was also a member of the Steilacoom Tribe. Deb will truly be remembered for all of her dedicated years planning and hosting Centralia High School’s class of 1968 and 1969 alumni reunions. She was so good at organizing these events that other alumni years requested her help in their class reunions as well!

Deb was well loved and respected in her Lewis County community where she will be greatly missed. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. There is a large group of family and friends who will feel her absence for a lifetime. She was quirky, loud, gregarious and had the wildest laugh in the group. You could not go anywhere in Lewis County with Deb without stopping to talk to someone who knew her.

On behalf of Bob, Chris, Ricki, Travis, Tammy, Kody and McKenzie Mitchell, we would like to thank all of the wonderful friends and family who helped support Deb in her long battle with cancer. She was a true fighter!

The Mitchell Family would especially like to thank the helpful and kind staff of nurses at the Oncology Group of Kaiser, including the wonderful Hospice Care Team.

A celebration of life will be at a later date to be determined.

All who were lucky to know and love Deb were truly blessed! She was a beautiful soul that will surely be missed.
