In Loving Memory of Leo (Frost) Carbaugh: 1938-2023

Posted

Leo (Frost) Carbaugh passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023, at Heritage House Morton Assisted Living. Leo was 84 years old.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lydia and Curtis Lester Sr.; husbands, Ray Frost and Earl Carbaugh; brothers, Curt and Angelo Lester; and daughter, Nancy Sawyer.

Leo was born in Grundy, Virginia, on Oct. 9, 1938. At the age of 4, her family traveled west and settled in the Onalaska area where she attended school. A friend introduced her to Ray Frost and they were married on March 16, 1956. They were excited to purchase their family home in Morton, and together they raised three children: Nancy (Gerald), Raylene (George) and Chuck.

Leo worked for Morton General Hospital housekeeping for many, many years. We affectionately pinned her with the nickname “Mrs. Clean.” She took great pride in her job as well as managing her spotless home.

When time permitted, the family outings consisted of year-round sporting events, camping in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and she thoroughly enjoyed her evening walks throughout Morton where she would visit with her many friends and neighbors.

Suddenly widowed at 38 years old, life seemed unpredictable. But just a few years later, Leo reconnected with an old classmate, Earl Carbaugh. They were married in June 1980 and spent time traveling to their favorite seashores throughout Washington and Oregon. Leo was blessed with not one, but two wonderful husbands throughout her lifetime.

Leo’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, Angie, Shanna, Ryan, Amanda (Barak) and Courtney (Eric) her great-grandson, Aaron, and great-grandaughter, Emma. Holiday gatherings or weekend overnights at grandma’s house filled our calendars. She will be missed immensely by her family, as well as by those who lovingly cared for her at Heritage House Morton.

To honor Leo’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. Interment cremation is under the direction of Cattermole Funeral Home. A private family gathering is planned.
