In loving memory of Lorraine Riedesel: 1928-2023

Posted

Lorraine Genevieve Riedesel, 95, of Chehalis, Washington, passed away on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023.

Lorraine Riedesel found time for everything, and she wrote about it: growing up on a dairy farm during the Depression, meeting Pete, staying connected with letters during World War II, and marrying him when he got home. Three boys, Stan, Cliff, and Keith, came along in the early 1950s, creating even more stories.

In 1960, Lorraine went to college to become a teacher. While Lorraine studied at Pacific Lutheran University, Pete and the boys kept the household organized. Lorraine taught elementary students for Chehalis schools, where Pete became the maintenance supervisor. In their spare time, Pete and Lorraine built and remodeled houses — 10 of them!

Between building projects, time was made for fishing, gardening, motorcycle riding, antiquing and camping. Eventually, Pete and Lorraine moved into Chehalis, but they kept a 40-acre tree farm. The last stop was at Chehalis West, an incredible care center. Lorraine was thoughtful, kind, analytical, smart and self-disciplined. She simply made everything around her better.

The family would like to thank Chehalis West Assisted Living, the entire staff of Assured Home Health & Hospice of Centralia, Washington, and the Toledo Senior Center. A celebration of life for Lorraine will be announced by the family at a later time.
