Mildred Edra Goodwyn was born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Powell, Oklahoma, to Hugh John Muchmore (of Indian Territory, Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains) and Minnie Lee Looney of Milam County, Texas. She is one of eight children and attended schools in Powell, Oklahoma. She moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma, met and married Dale Niram Goodwyn on Feb. 27, 1946. They started their married life in Texas, where Dale worked in an oil field, while Mildred was a housewife and prevailed as a waitress for many years, raising five children. They moved to Napavine, Washington, in 1964, then to Chehalis in 1990.
She was the last of her siblings surviving. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale, in 1994; children Leslie Dale (1946- 2019); Wilma Delores (1949-2016); Terry Dean (1956-2006); survived by her sons, Donald, of Chehalis, Washington, and Leon, of Chehalis, Washington; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mildred spent her time engaged in crosswords and puzzles, as well as being an avid reader. She enjoyed lunches with her girlfriends and visiting her many grandchildren over the years. She had a smile and laugh that would brighten up the room, with happiness, and was a joy to just be sitting around a table or indulging in a sweet treat of her homemade German chocolate cake or the cornbread stuffing she made every year for the holiday family gatherings. She will be missed and remembered with great love.
There will be a graveside service for her at Shoestring Cemetery WA-508, Onalaska, Washington, on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at 11 a.m.
