In loving memory of Richard Apperson: 1950-2023

Posted

Richard (Rich) Apperson was born on Feb. 24, 1950 in Chehalis, Washington to Lafe and Josephine Apperson. He passed away peacefully June 18, 2023.

Rich had big dreams for himself. He graduated from Winlock High School in 1968. He attended college at Lower Columbia Community College and went on to be an auto mechanic. He also worked at WIDCO, Cascade Loggers and Ross Equipment as a heavy equipment mechanic. During this time he married the love of his life Sherrie Holland on Dec. 5, 1975. They spent a wonderful 47 years together.

Together they raised two children; Tyson and Aimee.

Later on, Rich decided to change careers and go after his dream of educating children. He attended Centralia College and Saint Martin’s University to attain a bachelor’s degree in education. He later earned his master’s in administration from WSU. He worked as a teacher, principal and superintendent at Boistfort School. He inspired and touched so many lives during his twenty years in education. While working he also gave his time to coaching youth soccer and baseball, Boy Scouts and belonging to the Boistfort Lions Club.

Some of his favorite hobbies and activities were: skiing, golfing, fishing, taking his 53 Chevy Bel Air to car shows, and vacationing with family and friends. His proudest title was “Papa” to his four grandchildren: Ava, Mason, Noah and Grayson. He enjoyed spending retired life attending all of their special events.

Rich is survived by his wife Sherrie; son Tyson (Tara) and daughter Aimee; four grandchildren; and brothers Charles (Carol), and John (Kelly) Apperson. Rich is preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty.

At Rich’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to Boistfort School in memory of Richard Apperson.
