Shirley Ruth Stedham passed away peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 3, 2023, at the age of 97. Born to parents Edgar and Ruth Newgard on Feb. 14, 1926, Shirley’s journey through life was marked by love, compassion and unwavering strength.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John L. Stedham; her three devoted sons, John R., Steven and Ross Stedham; and her grandson, Mathew Stedham. Their memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Robert Newgard, and sister, Toni Sturdevant. Shirley’s legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren, John M. Stedham (Michelle), Dan Stedham (Katie), Case Stedham (Jamie) and Stephanie Stedham; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley’s life was a testament to the importance of family. Her love and dedication to her loved ones was unwavering. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, wisdom and grace. Shirley’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside memorial service to honor Shirley’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Claquato Cemetery, 142 Stearns Road, in Chehalis.
