Vera Irene Thompson, of Chehalis, passed away on Oct. 22, 2023. She was born on Sept. 9, 1931, to Wilford and Adaline (Strait) Prill and was the oldest of three children.
She grew up in Chehalis, Washington and graduated from W.F. West High School in Chehalis in 1949.
In September 1950, Vera married her high school sweetheart, Harley Thompson Jr. They raised two sons, Dan and Tim. Vera was a homemaker and a bookkeeper. She was also an active member of the Chehalis community. Vera coordinated the Fire Belles, a group of firefighters' wives who collected donations for families affected by house fires and who provided food to the firefighters when they responded to large fires.
Vera and Harley spent their retirement living in Apache Junction, Arizona, during the winter and traveling on cruises. Vera enjoyed doing puzzles, cooking, baking and gardening. Vera was known for her wry sense of humor and dedication to her family. Vera was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Harley. She is survived by sons, Dan of Chehalis, and Tim (Dianne), of Sumner; grandchildren, Justin and Meagan; and her beloved dog, Max.
