A recent letter to the Chronicle took me to task for referring to MAGA as “idiots” and “buffoons.”
We could start with anyone believing that a 10% across the board tariff is a good economic policy. In spite of what Donald Trump says, the cost of the tariff is added onto the retail price of the product, whether it is a $40,000 truck that will cost $44,000 or a small ticket household item.It is very inflationary.
Heavy tariffs were tried once before in the belief they would protect American workers. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 was believed by some to be an antidote to the 1929 economic crash. Like all tariffs it further depressed the economy by stifling export/import commerce. Smoot-Hawley is credited by most economists for turning a very bad recession into the Great Depression.
Sadism is not an immigration policy. It is a mental disorder. Conservative Republican Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma negotiated a very conservative but rational immigration policy with President Biden who agreed to sign it. Trump told MAGA to kill this good compromise legislation because he wanted the immigration issue for his campaign.
Yo - White Christian nationalists, Jesus was not a white man. If you try to conflate Donald Trump with Jesus you are not a Christian, you are a blasphemer.
So, if Trump says climate change is a hoax that makes it true and it won’t actually happen? Great. Tell your grandchildren.
You say “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” So you are saying you believe the perfection of the human soul is more likely to reduce gun violence than effective firearms regulation?
Trump called Vladimir Putin’s bloody invasion of Ukraine “genius.” He exchanges love letters with North Korea’s Kim Jung Un and calls him a strong leader and admires the way his people revere him like a cult - Trump’s model for good government. North Korea, the so-called “hermit state” has no economy and starvation is common, relieved only by China’s help.
Jang Song Thaek, Kim’s powerful uncle was executed in 2013 after being found guilty of “attempting to overthrow the state.” Jang and his five closest aides were stripped naked, thrown into a cage and set upon by 120 hunting hounds which had been starved for five days. Reports said Jang and his aides were “completely eaten up.” Kim and his brother personally supervised the hour-long horror fest.
You do not love America if you love these dictators who the world would do well to see in their graves.
Our alliances President Biden has strengthened in Asia and Europe will make America more secure for years to come. Without them we are smaller, weaker, and more vulnerable. Since World War II the U.S. has wisely stood with its allies.
Project 2025 is the far-right’s manifesto for an authoritarian makeover of the federal government in the event of a Trump victory in November. Kevin Roberts, the leader of Project 2025 has said we are in the middle of a second American Revolution “which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to.” Talk about polarizing. Trump disavows any knowledge of Project 2025, but like the Stormy Daniels case, his DNA is all over it.
If America has become, like Trump, allergic to objective facts, America’s greatness is finished. If only by feral instinct, Vladimir Putin knows that.
