A Lewis County man accused of brutally assaulting and threatening to kill a woman in June has been arrested on a $100,000 warrant.

A Lewis County Superior Court judge ruled Friday, Dec. 26, to uphold that bail amount.

Martin William Gallagher, 63, of Chehalis, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 24, according to jail records. He was also booked on unrelated outstanding charges out of Winlock Municipal Court.

Gallagher was charged Aug. 19 in Lewis County Superior Court with one count each of second-degree assault, domestic violence; and felony harassment, domestic violence. A warrant for his arrest was issued that same day.

The charges stem from a June 23 incident where Gallagher allegedly attacked his girlfriend at a residence near Jackson Highway between Chehalis and Napavine, according to an affidavit filed in Lewis County Superior Court.

Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded after two separate callers reported hearing a woman screaming for help.

The attack reportedly started as an argument between Gallagher and his girlfriend over cleaning a bowl.

The argument spread from a residence to outside, where Ghallager allegedly picked up a brick and threw it at his girlfriend.

He then allegedly picked up another brick and ran at her with it.

The victim reported that she ended up on the ground, covering her head with her arms.

The next thing she remembered, she said, was Gallagher using a spotlight to hit her on the head.

Gallagher then allegedly grabbed her by the head, struck her head repeatedly on the ground, stomped on her head with his feet and attempted to gouge her eyes out.

When she screamed for help, Gallagher allegedly screamed at her to be quiet and threatened to kill her.

The victim’s cry for help reached a neighbor, who was one of the two people who called 911 to report the incident.

The neighbor reported hearing the victim crying for help and said he saw Gallagher standing over her, but didn’t observe the assault itself.

Gallagher reportedly walked away when the neighbor yelled at him.

Deputies and medical personnel who examined the victim noted that she had an obvious bleeding head injury, as well as cuts to her head, arms and legs. She was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital for treatment.

Court documents indicate that Gallagher has an “extensive” criminal history of domestic violence against the same woman.

The latest conviction involved Gallagher throwing a brick at the woman’s vehicle, according to court documents.

The victim does not want this current case prosecuted, Gallagher relayed through a defense attorney.

Arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 8.
