Local runners compete in John Payne Invitational

Dozens of local runners descended on University Place on Saturday to compete in the 27th annual John Payne Invitational.

Athletes from several Lewis County schools ran, including runners from Adna, Mossyrock, Napavine, Onalaska, Rainier, Rochester and W.F. West.

The varsity races were split into two divisions, and Adna’s Jordan Stout was the lone local racer in the first division.

Stout performed well in that race, finishing 17th among 178 runners with a time of 16:33.6.

In the second division, Rochester’s Gunnar Morgan notched a top-10 finish, placing sixth among 289 runners with a time of 16:48.9. Ezra Birchard was the top finisher W.F. West, placing 64th with a time of 18:28.3.

Rainier’s Zach Hamilton also placed in the top 100, as Zach Hamilton crossed the finish line in 85th with a time of 18:40.8.



Onalaska had two racer’s come in towards the back of the top 100, as Isaac Fitch finished in 18:41.9 for 88th, while Conner Blair came in about seven seconds later to place 97th.

Adna’s Bailey Davis just missed out on the top 100, placing 101st with a time of 18:54.7. Landon Engelbertson was Napavine’s lone racer, finishing 247th with a time of 21:23.5.

In the girl’s race, Rainier’s Madison Ingram was the top local finisher, placing 16th with a time of 20:.58.8, while her teammate Ella Marvin just missed out on the top 100, placing 101st with a time of 23:55.0.

Onalaska’s Melissa Reiman came in at 52nd with a time of 22:26.7, Rochester’s Mercedies Dupont finished 92nd with a time of 23:37.8.

Just missing out on the top 100 was Mossyrock’s Joan Wedam, who placed 111th with a time of 24:08.8.
