Loggers top Warriors in non-league affair

It didn’t take long for Onalaska to take control on Thursday against Rochester, and the Loggers rode that momentum to a 25-15, 25-7, 25-11 win.

“Tonight the team came ready to go and just never looked back,” Onalaska coach Susan Gordon said. “We took care of the ball, we didn't make mistakes and we played together as a team.”

Emalie Jacoby continued to make a case for a spot on the All-League team, as she totaled 20 digs, 13 kills, 10 assists, and seven aces.

“Emalie just continues to lead this team and push them to the highest level possible,” Gordon said.

It wasn’t just Jacoby, as Leah Hamilton added 11 digs and six kills, and Braelyn Babb dished out 21 assists while also logging six kills and a pair of blocks. Faith Hammer also had a great defensive night at the net, leading the Loggers with four blocks.

Though Sommer Hammer has been out due to injury for the last three weeks, she and Meleah Stewart made sure to get the crowd involved, something that Gordon said helped the Loggers on the court.

“The momentum that a great crowd brings can really make a team perform at a high level,” Gordon said. “Those two got them going and it showed tonight at times in our performance on the court.”

Both teams will return to league play on Tuesday. Onalaska (10-3, 4-1 C2BL) will host Mossyrock, and Rochester (0-13, 0-5) will head to Montesano.
