MWP falls to Toutle Lake in season-opener

The Morton-White Pass football team’s season got off to a rocky start on Friday, as the Timberwolves fell to the Toutle Lake Ducks 24-12.

The Ducks jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the second quarter before Kohen Ingalsbe got the Timberwolves on the board with a 23-yard scoop and score that cut the MWP deficit in half.

Toutle Lake’s Dylan Fraidenburg, who scored both Toutle Lake touchdowns in the first half, threw for two more in the second half to stretch the lead to 24-6.

While Brecken Pelletier was able to break off a 50-yard run to keep the Timberwolves in striking distance, they never got back within one score.

While statistically the teams were mostly even, the difference in the game was MWP’s three turnovers and inability to finish in the red zone.

MWP coach Lee Metcalf noted that because of the overall youth of the team, especially in the offensive line, where four underclassmen are starting, there are some expected growing pains.

“It’s things young teams do that we have to work through,” Metcalf said. “Just gonna learn and grow and try to be better.”

The Timberwolves next chance will come next Friday when they head east to take on the White Swan Cougars.
