Riverhawks pull away early in win over T-Wolves

It didn’t take the Toledo offense long to get rolling on Friday against Morton-White Pass, as the Riverhawks scored four touchdowns in the first and added two more in the second in a 43-8 win.

Eli Weeks threw for the first two touchdowns, and Nathan Beaver and Carter Swofford broke off long runs to put Toledo up 27-0 after one.

Bomaine Birdwell, a senior, also scored a touchdown in his final home game.

“This one is an interesting (class),” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said. “Besides Leland (McCree), they didn’t have varsity experience coming in. They worked hard the last four years to get some starters out of that group. I’m really proud of how they stepped up.”

Adam Kruger returned a punt for a touchdown later in the second, and the defense got in on the scoring action by forcing a safety.

With the win, the Riverhawks pushed their winning streak to seven, and they also finished another season unbeaten at home.

“We take so much pride in our home field,” Christensen said, adding that the Riverhawks haven’t lost at home since 2018 or 2019. “These guys were seventh graders the last time they lost. They weren't going to let it happen on their watch.”

Morton-White Pass (3-4, 1-3 C2BL East) will return home to host Toutle Lake at White Pass next Friday. Up next for Toledo (7-0, 4-0 C2BL East) is a matchup that will determine the C2BL East, as the Riverhawks will head to Onalaska to face the Loggers.

“One thing we wanted to do this season is prepare our non-league based on that (matchup)," Christensen said. “They are a really good football team. We just have to show up next Friday … It is going to be a physical football game. Onalaska knows it, we know it. We have to be the most physical team.”
