O’Dell, Birchard win at Centralia/W.F. West meet

The Centralia and W.F. West cross country teams split the individual titles Wednesday at Stan Hedwall Park, but the Tigers took home both team wins in both schools’ first dose of 2A EvCo action.

Sophomore Elyse O’Dell led the Tigers in the girls’ race, winning with a time of 24:13.38. Behind her, seniors Keira Jones (26:21.60) and Ruth Gonzalez (26:26.22) took second and third, respectively.

Riley Meade was fifth for the Tigers at 27:22.81, and Esther Hopkins was sixth at 29:28.89.

Freshman Jane Birchard led W.F. West with a fourth-place time of 26:57.95; with only three runners finishing, the Bearcats didn’t log a team score.

On the boys’ side of things, Ezra Birchard won the race with a time of 18:54.28, but Centralia took the next three spots en route to a 23-32 team win.



Eli Baldwin finished in 20:31.58 for second for the Tigers, while fellow sophomores Adam Leon (20:38.82) and Evan Thummel (20:46.11) were third and fourth, respectively. Freshman Ethan Weiher took sixth at 21:31.61, while sophomore Josiah Wilmot (22:56.74) was eighth.

Behind Birchard, David Moeckel was fifth for W.F. West with a time of 20:49.31. Graham Wilson took seventh at 22:11.99, Adam Butterfield was ninth at 22:59.90, and Rowan Clary finished 10th at 24:43.83.

Both Centralia and W.F. West are set to send runners to the Fort Steilacoom Invitation this coming Saturday.
