Onalaska secures non-league triumph over Rochester

Ignited by a double-double from Emalie Jacoby plus 33 assists from Braelyn Babb, the Loggers kept a respectful distance in three of the four sets to defeat the Warriors 25-18, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19 on Wednesday night in Rochester.

“This was the definition of an ugly win,” Onalaska head coach Susan Gordon said. “Sometimes you have to take the win, move on and hope this type of game never comes back.”

The first two sets were comfortable to put the Loggers (2-1) on the verge of a sweep. Rochester rallied to extend the match to four sets, but the momentum wasn’t sustained. Onalaska scored the first five points and built off that to finish off the win.

“They have some heavy hitters on that team,” Warriors head coach Courtney Baird. “We did a good job making adjustments. Overall, I am happy how they ended up playing.”

Cheyenne Justice notched a team-best 26 digs while Arissa LeBaron registered 16 and Jessanie Quarles added 11. McKenna Vassar and Lexi Dupont paced the front row with five and four kills, respectively. Hailey Bouyd stepped in to setter and had 14 assists.

Jacoby stuffed the stat sheet for Onalaska with 17 kills, 15 digs and five aces. Sommer and Faith Hammer combined for 18 kills while Capri McGraw recorded seven digs.

Rochester will face another C2BL school in Toledo on Thursday while Onalaska hosts the other local 1A Evergreen program in Tenino.
