Onalaska’s Kennedy Kinsman named Junior Livestock Sale’s ‘Hay Queen’ during fair

Prior to the start of the Junior Livestock Sale at the Southwest Washington Fair on Friday, Aug. 16, the Junior Livestock Sale Committee announced the winner of this year’s Hay King Award.

“Every year we try to give out the Hay King Award, given to the best at bailing hay as scrutinized by our panel of judges,” said Junior Livestock Sale Committee member Jason Humphrey. “I think for the history of it. It’s always been a male. But this year, we have hay royalty and our first ever Hay Queen, Kennedy Kinsman.”

Kinsman, from Onalaska, was also recently listed on Onalaska Middle School’s honor roll with a 4.0 GPA in June.

The Southwest Washington Junior Livestock Sale offers local youth participating in 4-H clubs or their local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters the opportunity to select, raise, train, market and finally sell an animal of their choice at the Southwest Washington Fair during an annual live auction event.

Youth can choose from raising swine, lambs, goats, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, rabbits and cattle.
