Rochester struggles to piece together points in loss to Montesano

Despite 37 combined digs from defensive specialists Cheyenne Justice and Addi Morgan, the Warriors attack never kept up and the bulldogs came away with a dominating 25-5, 25-17, 25-6 sweep on Thursday night in Rochester.

At 0-9 and 0-2 in the Class 1A Evergreen league, Rochester was swept for the first time in three weeks. It kept it competitive in the second set, but head coach Courtney Baird felt her girls “handed” Montesano the first and third sets.

“I was having an out-of-body experience, I don’t know what was going on,” Baird admitted. “We already had it in our head that they’re a strong team.”

McKenna Vassar had two kills, Lexi Dupont finished with two blocks and Arissa LeBaron registered two service aces for the Warriors. They will renew a longtime rivalry with Tenino next week.

“They’re very set on beating Tenino; I hear it everyday,” Baird said. “I don’t think I’ve heard that with every other game. If we can get those close matches and get a win soon, we can trend upward a little bit.”
