Roundup Stamp Show to be Held at Yard Birds Mall

Lewis County stamp collectors will have the opportunity to broaden their collections on Oct. 17 when the Olympia Philatelic Society hosts its semiannual Roundup Stamp Show at Yard Birds Mall.

The stamp club has been around since 1939 and some of its 40 members are Lewis County residents. The show will be held in the Yard Birds party room, located at 2100 N. National Ave. in Chehalis, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free stamps and activities will be available for children, and between 10 and 12 stamp dealers from the Pacific Northwest will have vintage stamps and covers for sale, stamp and postal cover exhibits, and a U.S. Postal Service representative will sell newer stamps and provide postmark services.

Various speciality stamp and cover-collecting clubs will be in attendance, including the Art Cover Exchange and the Ship Cancellation Society.

The Art Cover Exchange, which includes members locally, creates special artwork for collectible postal envelopes and the Ship Cancellation Society specializes in showing its members how to obtain cancellation from post offices abroad U.S. Navy and other ships.

Bernie Noll, the stamp club’s president, said the event provides the perfect opportunity for stamp collectors to purchase additions to their collections, or simply admire stamps.

“If they are stamp collectors, they can buy and sell stamps,” Noll said, adding that appraisals will also be available at the event.

The Olympia Philatelic Society, a Thurston County club, typically holds its events in the Olympia area, but decided to switch locations after the venue at Yard Birds was discovered.

It is unknown whether future shows will be held in Chehalis.
