Fueled by two victories apiece, the W.F. West and Centralia girls wrestling teams picked up top-five placements at Saturday’s River Ridge Rumble. The Bearcats finished with 131.5 points to place second behind Shelton while the Tigers placed fourth with 91.5 points.
Black Hills took eighth with 71.5 points while Tenino slotted in at 11th with 62 points. Napavine (23 points), Onalaska (18) and Tumwater (15) finished top-30 in the team standings.
Bearcats senior Emily Mallonee pinned her way to triumph at 135-pounds, beating EvCo rival Jayden Krogness of Centralia in the finals with a fall in 2 minutes, 24 seconds. All of Mallonee’s pins came within three-and-a-half minutes. Teammate Kaylee Lehman picked up three pins and an 11-3 major decision to win the 130 bracket..
Returning state medalist Eva Reinitz of Centralia secured the win at 115 pounds behind three pins and 16-0 technical fall triumph over W.F. West’s Berkeley Varick in the finals. Tigers senior Jocelyn Navarro had two bonus point wins to win at 100 pounds.
Aurora Martin (125) and Gale Steiner (140) finished second for W.F. West. The other local winner was Black Hills’ Sloane Kruger, who remained perfect on the season with two pins, a tech fall and a 7-2 verdict over Washington High’s Kyler Menza at 105.
Tenino had three top-three finishers in Nataliah Chacon (130) and Ynavi Rodriguez (190) plus Maleah Chacon (120). Napavine’s Makaylynn Arias (170) and Tumwater’s Reagan Humphries (190) each placed fourth.
Winlock’s Goodrich claims Doug Makaiwi title
Junior Hailey Goodrich picked up two second period pins en route to winning the 120-pound bracket on Saturday afternoon at the Doug Makaiwi Memorial tournament. The Cardinals’ best wrestler sits at 14-3 on the season.
There were five brackets for girls at the co-ed tournament. Winlock’s Maile Odle and Essie Gullickson finished second and third at 115. Teammates Marisa Del Peso (140) and Samantha Paul (170/190). Pe Ell’s Madison Pearson took third at 140.
