Special teams play allows PWV to clinch crossover berth

A second quarter squib kick that was recovered by the Titans with six seconds left at the half proved to be the final dagger in their 34-6 C2BL West triumph over Forks on Friday night in Pe Ell.

It sets up a showdown of the last two unbeatens in the west division when Napavine and PWV (5-2, 3-0 C2BL West) tangle in Menlo next week. The Titans also extended their winning streak to four and have clinched a spot in the crossover in a couple weeks.

“We’ve really tried to emphasize we’re a family, playing for each other. They want to do well for each other and win for each other,” PWV Interim head coach Josh Seymour said.

Eddie Clements chased down the squib kick that was near the sideline, but in the rain and slop, the ball was gnarly stationary. With six seconds left in the half, Nate Fluke chucked it towards Blaine King for a 31-yard TD and a 28-6 halftime cushion.

Lucas Lusk tallied 14 carries for 57 yards and a score while Strozyk and King plus Cody Mican each had standout games. King hauled in two TD passes from Fluke with the QB ending the night going 12-for-22 with 143 yards.

PWV can finishing at bare minimum top-three in league, but a win over Napavine would give the Titans the inside track at an outright league title.

“That was the play of the game,” Seymour said, referencing the onside kick. “Gave us a ton of momentum.”
