Since 1947, the Make It With Wool contest has promoted the versatility, beauty and wearability of wool.
This year’s state contest, held Oct. 19 at the Sewing and Design School in Tacoma, featured contestants of all ages, from pre-teens through adults, sewing, knitting, crocheting, weaving or felting wool garments. Their work was judged on quality and presentation.
Lindsey Larson, of Tenino, was the winner of the pre-teen category.
“Lindsey made a purple jumpsuit with a neckline ruffle and elastic waist that fit her beautifully,” organizers wrote in a news release.
Lilly Gage, of Chehalis, was the winner in the juniors category.
“Lilly made a black and white textured jumper that had a fitted bodice with cutouts on the sides and a straight skirt that ended just above the knee,” organizers wrote.
Enaliya Rubin, of Centralia, placed second in the juniors category.
A workshop on measurements, fit and instructive sewing tool knowledge was held during the judging.
In all, there were 12 contestants with 14 entries total, and five of them were new contestants. They were judged on modeling, interview and fit.
