The WET Science Center’s fall lineup brings the outdoors inside

Posted

With rain in the forecast and cooler temperatures, it’s time to find affordable ways to have fun inside.

The WET Science Center is ready to help!

Most middle schoolers in Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater visit as part of a field trip, but did you know that the WET Science Center is open to the public and free to visit?

Visit the science center Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to learn all about water.

When you’re here, you can do a scavenger hunt through the exhibits to earn a prize or just enjoy learning all about clean water. We’ve got activities for all ages — including microscopes, a giant calculator and pipes you can move and wheels you can spin.

Serving Olympia for more than 16 years, the exhibits and classroom occupy the front of the Budd Inlet Treatment Plant in downtown Olympia. This engineering marvel cleans 13 million gallons of wastewater every day from the homes and businesses in Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater and produces reclaimed water.

Chances are you didn’t realize it is located right next to the Hands On Children’s Museum!

Saturdays at the science center have a new theme every week, with our classroom filled with activities, games and crafts custom designed for the day. Our themes are always posted on social media and available online at wetsciencecenter.org Here’s a quick look at some highlights:

  • October 17: We’re celebrating Orca Recovery Day and learning how to protect Orcas and their habitat.
  • October 24: Wolves in the Wild — Wolf Haven International will give a presentation on wolves at 2 p.m.
  • October 31: Celebrate spooky season with Candy Science! Costumes welcome, of course.
  •  November 7: It isn’t just stars that light up at night. Learn what else lights up when the sun goes down — in the sea and on land.
Don’t let the soggy weather get you down — come to the WET Science Center to explore and discover more.
