Tigers race out of the gates in dominant win over Ravens

After a slow start offensively last week against Adna, Napavine wanted to get out of the gates faster on Friday against Raymond-South Bend.

The Tigers did just that, scoring 27 in the first and adding 28 in the second en route to a 61-7 win over the Ravens.

“The kids did a nice job executing,” Napavine coach Josh Fay said. “And our playmakers made plays early.”

Grady Wilson and Colin Shields both broke free for long touchdown runs early in the first, and Wilson connected with Denault on a 21-yard touchdown pass to make it 20-0. Denault got a scoop-and-score moments later on defense.

Shields also got a defensive touchdown, taking an interception back 58 yards for a pick-six, and he also came away with a receiving touchdown.

Several young players got into the game as the score ballooned, including Pono Moniz-Taitague and Dean Hamilton, who both scored.

“We were able to play a lot of guys and get some kids a little Friday night experience,” Fay said. “I thought Pono and Hamilton did some nice things for a couple of young kids.”

Napavine (4-2, 2-0 C2BL West) will return home next Friday to host Ilwaco.
