Tigers top Eagles for second straight win

The Centralia volleyball team hit the road and returned home with a win on Thursday, as the Tigers topped Elma in four sets 25-16, 17-25, 25-15, 25-17.

“Probably one of our best games despite losing a set,” Centralia coach Marti Smith said. “I was really proud of them tonight. It was just a really good, high energy game.”

That energy helped the Tigers pull away in the first set, and after Elma took Set 2, it helped Centralia retake control of the game in Set 3.

“Just too many unforced errors in that second set,” Smith said. “We ended that set with more energy, and that helped us going into the third.”

Smith said there were some solid back-and-forth rallies throughout the final two sets, but she commended her hitters, saying they “kept firing.”

“Our hitters really did some good things tonight,” Smith said. “Many other times, those swings would have been kills. Elma just kind of kept fighting and chipping away, but our girls didn’t back down.”

Mikaela Marazita finished with eight digs and six kills, while Brooklyn Sprague added 18 digs, eight kills, and went 12 for 13 from the service line.

McKenna Smith dished out 22 assists while adding nine digs, six kills, and only missing one of 18 serves, while Hollynn Wakefield also only made one mistake at the service line in 13 attempts and tallied five kills.

Madison Breckel went a perfect 17 for 17 serving while tallying 10 digs, nine assists, and a pair of aces, while Ryleigh Butler added five kills.

The Tigers (2-1) will return home Thursday to face Shelton in their league opener.
