Trailblazers take care of business against Clippers

Goals were aplenty for the Centralia College women’s soccer team on Wednesday, as the Trailblazers made in a statement in their league opener.

Centralia beat South Puget Sound 6-1 for their fourth straight win to open the season.

“We’ve been working on getting numbers forward,” Centralia coach Clarence Karteh said. “Definitely proud.”

Allison Ingham got the scoring started early with a goal in the 18th minute, and Celestine Allsup added a goal of her own to make it 2-0.

After South Puget Sound got on the board minutes later, Krysta Hook put the CC lead right back at two with a goal of her own.

“Getting that fourth goal before half is huge,” Karteh said.

The second half started just as well as the first half ended, as Alicia Jenkins almost immediately made it a 4-1 game, and Ruby Serrato capped the day off with a late brace.

While Karteh said the defense was hoping for a shutout, he was pleased with the way they adapted and took better care of the ball in the second half.

“Definitely proud of how much better we played in the second half,” Karteh said. “Looking forward to the team continuing to improve and make their adjustments. Proud of the league opener and how we handled things at home.”

The Trailblazers (4-0, 1-0 NWAC) will be at home again next Wednesday, Sept. 11, when they take on Tacoma.
