Tumwater’s Broome places second at Makarenko Park

Tumwater’s Alexandra Broome was highest area placer on Wednesday at Makarenko Park in Aberdeen, as the sophomore took second in the girls race.

Tumwater and W.F. West made up four of the top-five finishers, as Tumwater Miriam Ore (24:10.15) took fourth to join Broome (20:42.88).

W.F. West’s Mercedes Ricks (23:47.78) took third, while Loren Kattenbraker set a personal record by finishing fifth in 24:35.85. Violet Gorman (28:2.5.73) finished just outside the top 10 at 11th.

Aberdeen’s Aliyn Haggard won the race in 19:58.07, and the Bobcats took home the team victory with 23 points. W.F. West scored 34. Tumwater only had four races, so the T-Birds didn’t record a team score.

In the boys’ race, Tumwater’s Zane McAferty was the top local finisher, as he placed third in 18:05.10.



W.F. West’s Ezra Birchard (18:28.17) and Jeffery Hartwell (18:46.33) placed fifth and sixth, while Tumwater’s Landon Anderson (18:54.19) wasn’t far behind in seventh.

Tumwater’s Hayden Newman was the other local top-10 finisher, as he ran a 19:07.38, narrowly beating Aberdeen’s Ezekiel Olson by less than a second.

Tumwater’s William Zahn (19:42.99) placed 11th, while W.F. West’s Rowan Clary (19:43.18) and David Moeckel (19:45.18) placed 12th and 13th, respectively. Rounding out the top 15 was Tumwater Thomas Kressin, who ran a 19:49.37.

The Aberdeen boys also won the team score with 25 points, while Tumwater placed second with 45 and W.F. West placed third with 52.
