W.F. West continues to roll in dominant win over Shelton

W.F. West took care of business again on Friday night, as the Bearcats routed Shelton 62-0.

“It was a full team effort across the board today,” W.F. West coach Dan Hill said. “We executed very well.”

Eight different Bearcats found the end zone, including Ross Kelley, who returned a kickoff 90 yards to open the second half, and Hudson McCallum, who returned an interception 60 yards for the final touchdown of the night.

The usual suspects also found the end zone, including Gage Brumfield, who threw three touchdowns and ran in another while tallying over 200 total yards.

“Gage is twice as good as last year at this point,” Hill said. “And he’s continuing to get better every week. His ability to run the ball and throw the ball makes it difficult (for defenses).”

Beau Guyette hit pay dirt twice and totaled 94 yards on the ground, while Miles Martin tallied 96 rushing yards and also scored a touchdown.

Tucker Land and Grady Westlund combined for 134 yards on just three catches, and they both scored on long touchdowns.

Defensively, the Bearcats were just as impressive, as Shelton tallied just 81 total yards of offense. Hill said he was pleased with the way the secondary rallied to the ball, and he was happy to see the defensive line keep their eyes on the QB to bat down balls when possible.

It’s W.F. West’s third consecutive win over a 3A school, and Hill is eager to see them continue to improve as league play gets underway.

“Anytime you can play the first four games and go 4-0, it’s pretty special,” Hill said. “We’re excited about where we’re at and where we’re going.”

The Bearcats will head west for their league opener next Friday, where they’ll match up with Aberdeen.
