The W.F. West boys wrestling team welcomed 14 schools to Chehalis for the Bearcat Invite on Saturday, and proceeded to do enough to beat them all, taking first in its own tournament.
The Bearcats didn’t have any individual champions on the day, but had top-six finishers score points in 11 of the 15 weight classes.
Tucker Land took second place at 175, while Andrew Penland was second at 215. Talan Meredith (285), Angelo Peters (215) and Andrew Snyder (157) took third in their respective divisions, while Lewis Allen (120), Adrian Jaimes (126), Graysen Serl (144) and Kyle Nowels (190) were fourth.
Kallon Homan took fifth at 165, while Race Scalici was sixth at 132.
Three Tigers win in Lacey
The Centralia wrestling team got wins on both the boys and girls’ sides of things at the River Ridge Rumble on Saturday.
Jesus Campos blitzed through yet another 120-pound bracket, winning once by technical fall and twice by pin to get to the championship match, which he dominated 17-0 for another tech fall.
For the girls, Jocelyn Navarro won the title at 100 with a pin in the championship, while Ramona Reinitz won at 110 with a technical fall in the final match.
Jimie Deschamps (100) and Eva Reinitz (115) both earned fourth-place finishes.
W.F. West’s girls team also showed out in Lakewood, led by Lia Hornby, who placed first at 135. Yasmine Azcunaga (170), K.D. Obtinario (235) and Shelby Hazlett (125) all took second place, and Berkeley Varick (115), Aurora Martin (125) and Kaylee Lehman (130) were third.
Tenino’s Dakota Lees finished second at 155, with teammate Ynavi Rodriguez taking second at 190. Natalie Chacon was fourth at 130.
Wolves get their rubber chickens in Kalama
The Black Hills boys wrestling team went down to Kalama on Saturday and placed fifth out of 10 teams at the 2024 Rubber Chicken Classic, with two individual champions.
Cash Boos took first place at 120, winning the championship tilt by major decision. At 157, Ammon Combs won his own championship match by fall in under a minute.
Cole Creekpaum took third at 175 for Black Hills, while Aiden Labouff (113), Jose Fockler (138) and Marcs Cruz (144) were fourth and Garryn Webster (285) was sixth.
Kruger wins 100th match, and a title, at Lady Lipstick
Black Hills’ Sloane Kruger took on yet another field and won yet again Saturday, winning the 105-pound championship at the Lady Lancers Lipstick Open, hosted by Lakes High School in Lakewood.
Kruger beat out a field of 14 wrestlers, winning three of her four matches of the day by pin with the other — her semifinal — going her way in a 15-1 major decision.
En route to the title, the junior took home her 100th career victory.
Elsewhere for the Wolves, Nancy Nguyen was third at 120B, while Madeline Payne was third at 155B.
T-Birds win Lumberjack Classic
The Tumwater boys wrestling team beat out 10 schools in Longview at the Lumberjack Classic on Saturday, while Toledo took seventh, and Onalaska was eighth.
The T-Birds got first-place finishes from Carlos Juarez-Estrada (113), Mekhi Richardson (157) and Cash Short (190), while Alex Concepcion (120), Fisher Vaughter (138) and Gavin Kaikkonen (144) all took second. Diego Concepcion (113), Brian Fowler (126), Joshua Matundura (157), Mikah Parrish-Sederberg (165) Jacob Kaikkonen (175) all were third.
Toledo’s Bayron Rodriguez placed second at 175, while Carter Swofford was fourth at 132 and Mathew Martin was fourth at 285. Onalaska’s Benito Escalera (113) and Norman Prazak (120) both finished fourth.
On the girls’ side of things, Tumwater’s Lily Morgan won two of her three matches at 130, while Onalaska’s Delaney Browning took second at 190.
Price wins in Raymond
Adna’s Jacob Price earned Lewis County a win at the Doug Makaiwi Memorial Invite in Raymond on Saturday, with the Pirates placing sixth out of 15 schools.
Price beat Tenino’s Koy Knox in the championship tilt in a tight 5-4 minor decision.
The area also got second-place finishes from Adna’s Levi Slape (165), Pe Ell’s Konnor Pilz (157), Benjamin Parker (144), Madison Person (Girls 100-110) and Addyson Holmes (Girls 130-135) and Tenino’s Rowdie Tafoya (285).
Adna’s Kooper Moon was third at 132, Pe Ell’s Blake Burnett was third at 165 and Tenino’s Guy Lowery was third at 190.
