Pirates rely on ground game to bury Wolves

The Adna football team didn’t shy away from the ground game in the rain and wind on Friday night, instead relying on a heavy dosage of Beau Miller and company to dominate Coupeville in a 55-13 victory.

“It is never going to hurt us when it is rainy,” Adna coach Aaron Cochran said. “We are establishing an identity.”

Miller led the way with another monster game, rushing for 287 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries.

He wasn’t the only back to have success on the night, as Luke Mohney ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries and Naillon Ramirez rushed for 63 yards and a score on 11 attempts.

“They had a really good day,” Cochran said. “Anybody that is running the ball for us is doing a good job. I’m really proud of the job of the offensive line, they gotta keep working.”

Mohney also returned a punt for a touchdown, but it wasn’t all good for the Adna special teams unit. Both of Coupeville’s touchdowns came on kickoff return touchdowns, with one coming in each half.

The Adna defense more than made up for the special teams’ woes, as Cash Smith, Jack Smith, and Isaac Garman all came down with interceptions, while Steven O’Dell and Jackson Knittle combined for 10 tackles.

“I thought our defensive line did a good job disrupting,” Cochran said.

Cochran is hopeful that this win leads to a strong end of the regular season, but he also knows that in the C2BL, nothing is given.

“ We have to keep getting better and not get complacent,” Cochran said. “We can be proud of the things we’ve done, and I’m excited for my kids. But they understand where I'm coming from. We’re pumped, but we got a lot of work to do.”

The Pirates will hit the road in their return to league play next Friday at Ilwaco.
