Thursday's XC report: Toledo’s Marty, Rainier’s Shumate win C2BL Kickoff titles

Toledo senior Treyton Marty and Rainier’s Jazzlyn Shumate won their respective races on Thursday at Rainier’s C2BL Kickoff cross country meet.

Marty, a senior, won the 5K boys race in 16:37, putting over 50 seconds between himself and runner-up Zach Hamilton from Rainier (17:28). Teammate Conner Hill was fourth (18:09), and Morton-White Pass’ Vanson Armstrong (18:31), Noah Gilstrap (18:31) and Aidan Kampa (18:56) went fifth, sixth and seventh.

Adna’s Treven Willis (19:19) and Brady Morgan (19:20) finished ninth and 10th.

Rainier had five of the top six runners on the girls side. Shumate (20:59) was followed by teammates Komaire Robles (21:09) and Alexis Myers (21:50) in the top three. Kinsley Barlow (23:00) and Rayanna Wisner (23:04) were fifth and sixth. 

Mossyrock’s Joan Wedam was seventh (23:5) and Toledo’s Lilly Cooper (25:44) was eighth. Rainier’s Emma Mathson took 10th in 23:45.

Eatonville won the team scoring on the boys side, with Adna taking second. Rainier was the only girls team with a qualifying team score.



Rochester’s Morgan fourth in Hoquiam

Rochester’s Gunnar Morgan finished fourth on Thursday in a nine-team 1A Evergreen League cross country meet at Hoquiam. 

Morgan, a senior, covered the 5K course in 17:12. Montesano’s Benjamin Anderson won the boys race in 16:49. 

Tenino’s Tristan Von Bargen was fifth on the boys side in 18:08 and teammate Carter Mounts was eighth in 18:42.

Montesano’s Haley and Samantha Schweppe finished first and second in the girls race, in 19:37 and 20:04. Rochester’s Seraschel Alririch was ninth in 23:36 and Tenino’s Haley Huber took 10th in 23:49.
